Applying amount off and percent off discounts
By default, the POS application enables associates to enter a manual discount amount or a discount percent off to an item in a transaction.
Configurable features
The POS application can be configured with the following features:
- Specify the discount amount and percent threshold an associate is allowed to apply to an item in a transaction without requiring an authorization override. Refer to the following options:
- Disable the Amount Off and Percent Off buttons. Refer to the following options:
- Menu Buttons > Enable Amount Off Button
- Menu Buttons > Enable Percent Off Button
Manual discount thresholds
Retailers can set maximum percent and maximum amount thresholds for manual item-level discounts. When both of these are set, the POS compares both the discount to both thresholds to determine if an authorization override is required.
When the associate enters a manual amount discount for an item at the POS, the system performs two validations. First it checks the amount threshold to see if the amount entered is greater than the threshold. Second, it calculates the percent that the discount amount represents and checks the percent threshold to determine if the percent equivalent of the amount entered is greater than the percent threshold. If either condition is true, the POS requires an authorized associate to override the transaction.
When the associate enters a manual percent discount for an item at the POS, the system performs two validations. First it checks the percent threshold to see if the amount entered is greater than the threshold. Second, it calculates the equivalent amount that the percent discount represents and checks the amount threshold to determine if the amount equivalent of the percent entered is greater than the manual threshold. If either condition is true, the POS requires an authorized associate to override the transaction.
For example, assume the following conditions:
- Maximum Manual Item Discount Amount option = $10
- Maximum Manual Item Discount Percent option = 8%
- Price of item = $100
If the associate enters a manual item discount of $11, the POS will require authorization override because $11 is greater than the $10 maximum threshold. But if the associate manually enters an item discount of $9, which is lower than the maximum amount threshold of $10, the POS will still require an authorization override, because $9 is 9% of the price of the item, and 9% is greater than the maximum threshold of 8%.
Applying an amount off discount
To apply a manual discount amount to an item, follow these steps:
- Select an item in the sales transaction.
- Select Amount Off. The application displays the Markdown Amount Reason screen.
- Enter a manual discount amount on the keypad, and then select a discount reason. The POS application displays the item with the discount details and price on the Sale Main Menu screen. Note If either the manual discount amount or its equivalent discount percent are above the specified corresponding thresholds, the POS application requires an authorized associate to override the transaction.
- Complete the transaction.
Applying a percent off discount
Too apply a percent off discount to an item, follow these steps:
