Applying Item Discounts
Associates can apply discounts on items using any of the following methods:
- By adding a manual discount amount off and discount percent off. Refer to Applying amount off and percent off discounts.
- By scanning a coupon during a sales transaction
- By manually entering a coupon discount during a sales transaction
The POS application supports two types of coupons:
- Manufacturer coupons—issued by manufacturers of retail products that are sold in the store. Manufacturer coupons are used to offer promotional discounts to a particular item or a group of items.Note
To apply GS1 manufacturer coupons during a sales transaction, retailers must define the manufacturer code for each eligible item on the product item attribute called CompanyPrefix in the Product Catalog. For more information, refer to Adding Product Attributes.
- Store coupons—issued by a store to offer promotional discounts to a particular item or a group of items.
Configurable features
This POS application can be configured with the following features:
- Hide the Coupon button from the item-related options. Refer to the following options:
- Discounts > Enable Item Coupon
- Hide the Manufacturer Coupon button and/or Store Coupon button from the Coupon Type screen. Refer to the following options:
- Print or remove coupon items and the coupon header from the receipt. Refer to the following options:
- Discounts > Print Line items on the receipt for Coupon/Promo items
- Receipt Printing > Print Department Coupons on the receipt
The POS application observes the following restrictions on coupons:
- Coupons cannot result in a credit. For example, if an item is on sale for $2.59 and the customer submits a $3.00 coupon, the price of the item becomes $0. There is no credit of 41¢ owed to the customer.
- Only one coupon can be applied to each item in a sales transaction. After a coupon has been applied to an item, the Coupon option is no longer available for that item.
Manufacturer coupons
As part of promotions, manufacturers of retail products issue manufacturer coupons to offer promotional discounts to a specific item or a group of items. In the POS application, manufacturer coupons observe the following actions when applied in a sales transaction:
- Manufacturer coupons are considered as item markdowns.
- Manufacturer coupons are added as an item entry.
- The discounted amount is not displayed in the Discount field in the Subtotal area.
- The discounted amount is automatically applied and is displayed in the Subtotal field in the Subtotal area.
Store coupons
As part of promotions, stores issue store coupons to offer promotional discounts to a specific item or a group of items. In the POS application, store coupons observe the following actions when applied in a sales transaction:
- The discount information for the store coupon is displayed in line with the discounted item.
- The discounted amount is displayed in the Discount field in the Subtotal area.
- The discounted amount is automatically applied and the discounted amount is displayed in the Subtotal field in the Subtotal area.
