Updating the scanner firmware through Tricking Flashing

This functionality is supported only in Flash Enterprise Version with IBM-USB communication protocol. The following are the supported scanners and firmware versions:

• Class 7879 — firmware must be 497-0523733 or later
• Class 7877 — firmware must be 497-0524268 or later

To update the scanner firmware using trickle flashing, follow these steps:

1. Launch the Scanner Wizard. For procedures, refer to the Launching the Scanner Wizard.

   The application displays the Scanner Wizard main window.

   

2. Select Update Firmware. The application displays the following window.

   

3. Select Wired Connection. The application displays the following window.

   

   Note

   If the scanner is not listed, select My scanner is not in the list. The application directs the user to the Supported Scanners section of the Scanner Wizard help file.

4. Select the scanner that is connected to the terminal, and then select Yes on the message prompt. The application validates bin files from flash tool directory for the selected scanner.
   Note

   Only 7877 and 7879 Scanner classes are supported for Trickle Flashing.

   The application prompts the user to select the type of connection to use.

   

5. Select IBM-USB as the type of connection. The application displays the flashing options.

   

6. Select Trickle Flash. The application displays the list of firmware files.

   

   Note

   If the binary file is not listed, select I can’t find the binary in the list, and then browse a valid binary file to add it to the list.

7. From the list, select the binary file, and then select Next. The application displays the following window.

   

8. To start updating the selected firmware, select Update Firmware. The application starts flashing the firmware and shows the task progress.

   

   • If the task is successfully done, the application shows a message with green background.
     • To exit the task and go back to the Scanner Wizard main window, select Finish.
     • To view the log file, select View log file.

     

   • If the task fails, the application shows a message (short description of the error) with red background.
     • To exit the task and go back to the Scanner Wizard main window, select Finish.
